Google Analytics
The Bipolar Biography Project uses Google Analytics to understand general patterns in how visitors use the site, such as which pages are viewed, how visitors navigate between pages, and general information about sessions and devices.
Google Analytics is optional. When you first visit the site, you are given a choice to accept or decline analytics cookies. Google Analytics is not enabled unless you choose to accept analytics.
If you accept, Google Analytics may collect information such as:
- pages viewed and interactions with the site;
- session information;

Google Analytics may use first-party analytics cookies, including the _ga cookie, to distinguish users and sessions after analytics consent has been given.
Google Analytics may receive an IP address when a request is made. Google states that, in Google Analytics 4, IP addresses are used during collection to derive location information and are discarded before being logged in Analytics.
The Bipolar Biography Project uses analytics to understand and improve the website. Analytics data is not used by the project to determine whether a visitor has bipolar disorder, infer a visitor's mental-health status, or build health profiles about individual visitors.
The Bipolar Biography Project does not use Google Analytics for targeted advertising or remarketing.
Analytics consent
On a visitor's first visit, the site displays a small analytics consent notice with options to accept or decline analytics.
If you decline, Google Analytics remains disabled. If you accept, analytics is enabled and analytics cookies may be stored in your browser.
The site stores your analytics preference in your browser so that you do not need to make the same choice on every page or every visit. This preference is used only to remember your analytics choice.
Cookies and browser storage
The Bipolar Biography Project does not require an account to browse the site.
The site may use first-party browser storage for limited purposes, including remembering your analytics preference and other necessary site settings.

The Bipolar Biography Project does not use cookies to sell personal information or provide targeted advertising.

How long information is kept
Contact messages may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary to respond to an inquiry, maintain records of corrections or sourcing issues, resolve disputes, or protect the integrity and security of the site.
