Schumer earned her PhD in neuroscience from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 2023. During her doctoral research, she studied brain circuitry associated with bipolar disorder and led a large-scale meta-analysis of more than 200 functional neuroimaging studies examining patterns of brain activity and connectivity across the disorder.
