Robert Lowell was an American poet and teacher whose work became highly influential in twentieth-century American poetry. He published 17 poetry collections and received major honors including the Pulitzer Prize, National Book Award, and National Book Critics Circle Award. He also served as Consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress and taught at several universities. [7]

Career and work
Lowell published 17 poetry collections, along with plays, prose and translations. Lord Weary’s Castle won the Pulitzer Prize, Life Studies won the National Book Award, and Day by Day won the National Book Critics Circle Award. He served as Consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress in 1947–48 and later as a Chancellor of the Academy of American Poets from 1962 to 1977. [7]
Lowell also had a long teaching career. He taught at the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, the University of Cincinnati, Boston University, Harvard University and the New School for Social Research. [7]
